What We Do

Medical Outreach Home & Abroad

Participating on medical mission trips within various Central American and Caribbean countries, the physicians behind Surgeons of Service sought to establish a not for profit organization that aggregates resources to assist those in need while maintaining the core belief that their effort should be consistent and ultimately a sustainable program for years to come.

Mission Statement

To inspire humanitarian efforts, locally and globally, to create poverty awareness, instill education, and provide medical assistance.

Surgeons of Service has partnered with multiple area schools as well as with Second Harvest in Greensboro, Georgia to distribute shoes through the Shoes of Service program to those in need. Through our partnerships, we have been able to collect thousands of new and gently used shoes for individuals in the area who are in need, including those with losses due to recent Hurricanes in the South. Additionally, we collect lightly used boots, braces, and crutches from patients who are no longer in need of the medical equipment and we save them for local individuals who are in need of them with a financial hardship. We are looking to expand our efforts to more communities, contact us to set up a Surgeons of Service partnership!

Abroad

The Surgeons of Service team runs medical mission trips multiple times a year. Currently the efforts are focused in a remote town on the northern peninsula of Samana, in the Dominican Republic. After the team arrives in Santo Domingo in the southern Dominican Republic, our volunteers take a 2-hour bus ride to the small town of Las Terrenas. Located on a peninsula at the northern aspect of Dominican Republic, Las Terrenas is home to roughly 30,000 individuals and a small 30-bed hospital, the Hospital Lic. Pablo A. Paulino. The hospital has partnered with other medical mission teams in the past including dental, OBGYN, and general surgery, while Surgeons of Service introduced the first specialized clinic focusing solely on Foot & Ankle medicine and surgery. Basic services like dispensing a pair of shoes or shoe inserts, braces, offering ibuprofen, cortisone injections, and wound care to more advanced surgical services, patients in Las Terrenas receive the same quality of care that is offered in the United States.
