One of our success stories from the Dominican Republic where we prevented 2 unnecessary surgeries in a third world country on 2 year old Steven by using various braces. He was already scheduled to have double osteotomies on both legs when we first saw him in the clinic in 2014. During this encounter, we took a plaster mold of his foot & leg and advised his parents to postpone surgery. On our subsequent visit 6 months later, we fitted him with the custom brace that we had made in the states. With the help of The Samana Smiles Foundation, we located a pedorthotist (2 hours away) who was able to fit him with above knee braces. We followed up with Steven in 2015, 2016, and 2017, and you can see that the before and after pictures speak for themselves.
